This kitchen (see image below) by Nadia N. Subaran (Aidan Design) won a National Kitchen and Bathroom Association Award for Large Kitchen. When she was asked to redo the stark, white kitchen in a Potomac, Maryland, house, her job was quite clear – just open it up to the family room in order to create a much more integrated space, and complete the whole picture with a palette of vibrant and warm colours. She reclaimed space from badly utilized closets, removed the wall separating the living room and the kitchen, and deepened an already-existing bay window in order to create a beautiful and eye-catching design. Nadia chose light Caesar-stone countertops and dark cherry cabinetry for contrast. Pumpkin-colored walls idealically offset the dramatic glass-tile mosaic backsplash; quite sophisticated, Foscarini suspension lamp; and the banquette fabric with its interesting and fun citrus motif.
